House Burglaries are rising faster in Dublin than Rural areas

House Burglaries have increased by nearly a fifth since 2007.

Three quarters of the home burglary increase has come in Dublin despite charges that rural Ireland is bearing the brunt of the home crime epidemic.

The six garda divisions in the capital, according to central statistics office figures, together account for 82 per cent of the increase in home burglaries nationally in the eight year period to the end of last year. The number of  house burglaries in west Dublin jumped to 2297 last year compared to 1360 house burglaries in 2007 a 69 percent rise, while the east Dublin burglary rise was 60 percent.

Garda assistant commissioner said that the garda was very attuned to the enormous public concern in rising home burglary trends.
